FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan baseball club (9-0) double-dipped Bethany College (2-4) with 3-1 and 4-3 wins at Sycamore Park on Friday afternoon. The game two win was in walk-off fashion, courtesy of
Joseph Barfield.
On an absolute frigid day (for Texans) the Rams showed they are not all Airborne Attack, and got it done with well executed small ball. Texas Wesleyan posted another walk-off, this time in the eighth inning. The team put together a patient comeback, grabbing solo scores in the sixth, seventh and eighth.
The Rams knotted the game at 3-3 in the seventh, starting with a bunt. Wallace sacrifice bunt in the seventh to move
Houston Glad, who drew a walk in a pinch hit situation, led to a Jeddidah Fagg RBI single up the middle.
Tanner Amaral started the eighth with a masterful bunt for a hit to put
Michael Davila 90-feet away with no outs. The Swedes turned away the Rams at home plate on a fielder's choice play for the first out, but the persistent Rams stayed hungry. Amaral moved to third on a wild pitch, before Barfield executed a successful squeeze play for the win.
Parker Robinson (1-0) turned in a solid performance in 4.1 innings of relief work to earn the win. He limited the Swedes to a pair of hits, allowed one walk, while fanning six.
In game one, Campero posted the only extra base hit on the day. He went the other way down the right field line to bag two in game one. A play that proved to be the game winner in what was a tidy pitching performance for Texas Wesleyan.
Glad (2-0) went six strong, scattering six hits, allowing one unearned run and a pair of walks. He sat down six.
Jesse Ramirez picked up his first save shutting down the Bethany offense with three straight K's.
The two teams duke it out again tomorrow in a double header at Sycamore Park. First pitch is set for high noon. Live stats
