Rams drop battle with Southwestern Christian

BETHANY, OK - Not even Parker Robinson - who led the nation in ERA with a 0.56 (minimum five innings pitched, Robinson had pitched 32 coming in) - could spark No. 17 Texas Wesleyan Baseball (28-6, 9-2 SAC) Saturday in Oklahoma. The Rams fell to the surging Southwestern Christian Eagles (23-8, 7-5 SAC) who have won six of their last seven games. TXWES dropped the contest 12-4.

The Eagles scored in chunks, getting two runs in the first, four in the third, three in the fifth and three in the eighth.

The Rams took the lead briefly in the top of the third. Caden Williams got the offense going with a double down the right-field line before Michael Davila advanced him to third. after a walk and a stolen base for Sheadion Jamanika, the Rams were in prime position to make a run. Both of those runs scored on Jeddediah Fagg's double to right-center to give the Rams a 3-2 advantage.

The good feelings didn't last as long as TXWES would have hoped, thanks notably to Southwestern Christian catcher Diogen Ceballos. Ceballos, who is the second most efficient bat on the Eagles squad so far this season, went 5-for-8 with 3 RBI in his last two meetings with the Rams over the weekend, putting him in the running for SAC Player of the Week.

Attempting to keep up, Fagg went 2-for-4 Saturday with 3 RBI, the most RBI he's had in a game since the season-opening four against Texas College. Five other Rams connected for hits and Jamanika stole second again in the fifth to give him two total takeaways. It was only the second time all season the Rams have given up more than 10 runs, the only other occasion coming against ranked LSU-Shreveport, also on the road.

TXWES pitching added six strikeouts to their season total. Jordan Granado led the way with three in three innings, while Houston Glad through two and Robinson pitched in one.

HOME IS WHERE THE BATS LIVE
This season, Texas Wesleyan is 22-0 at home, averaging 8.18 runs per game. On the road, the Rams average 5.00 runs per game. If the Rams played every game at home this season, that would be good enough for the 13th-highest scoring offense in the NAIA.

WHAT'S NEXT
Texas Wesleyan will try to shake off the 1-2 stretch against the Eagles back at Sycamore Park against No. 5 Oklahoma City, who now leads the SAC with a 9-2 conference mark. The first pitch of the series will be Friday March 29 at 3 p.m.
