MOBILE, AL - Texas Wesleyan Women's Soccer (0-1) faces two of the top 25 teams in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll to start the season. The mini gauntlet started Thursday night with a 4-0 loss to No. 23 Mobile University. Despite the loss, Head Coach
Josh Gibbs doesn't see much to panic about so early.
"I'm not even mad," Gibbs said. "Two goals were after good runs from us and another came off a penalty kick. We missed a ton of chances, although the stats say differently. We have lots to work with."
Goalkeeper
Christy Zwart thwarted ten different Mobile shots, including four in the half to keep the first 45 minutes scoreless. But the Rams of Mobile put goals in the back of the net in the 52nd, 59th, 62nd (PK) and 78th minutes to pull away.Â
TXWES managed to get six shots off including two from Sooner Athletic Conference 2018 Player of the Year
Tameir Grosvenor. Mobile was only the second team in the last ten matches to keep Grosvenor out of the net.
Kristen Carter supplied two shots and
Sasha Trejo managed to fire two of her own off the bench.
Mobile became just the third team to shut out Texas Wesleyan in its last 37 matches. Mobile had four different scorers and two different assisters in the contest.
The Lady Rams will face the defending NAIA National Champions and the preseason No. 1 Crusaders of William Carey Saturday at 6 p.m. in the first meeting ever between the two schools. William Carey finished 21-3 last season and has already dispatched LSU-Alexandria 4-0 in their season opener. It all means very little. One of the Crusaders three losses in 2018 was to John Brown, who Texas Wesleyan defeated on the road late in the season to claim the SAC Regular Season title.
