TXWES crushes Panhandle State

GOODWELL, OK - Texas Wesleyan Volleyball (10-6, 6-2 SAC) got to ten wins on the season Saturday afternoon, crushing Oklahoma Panhandle State (6-9, 3-5 SAC) 25-19, 25-9, 25-9. It's the first time this season the Lady Rams have won two of the three sets in a match by 16 or more points, the first time since doing so against Central Christian in the 2018 conference opener.

Chastiny Brown and Veronika Webb each notched eight kills. Morgan Burns led all passers with 10 assists, Madison Lopez dug out 14 balls from the floor, Brenda Pargas registered two service aces and McKayla flowers put away two blocks.

TXWES went on runs of at least six-straight points six different times against the Aggies, three of which came in the third set. Texas Wesleyan jumped out to a 7-0 advantage that included the two aces from Pargas back-to-back. Up 9-3, Sydney Charlton's two kills and a slew of Aggie errors helped build the Rams' lead to 16-3. Up 18-6, six straight points all but closed it out, led by Flowers' two kills. OPSU had a negative hitting percentage in every set, scoring a -.141 for the day, the lowest hitting percentage for OPSU since joining the conference three years ago.

Texas Wesleyan is on pace with last season when the team was 11-6 at this time last year (not counting a Becone forefit). In 2018, volleyball made the NAIA National Tournament for the second consecutive season. The program - in its 41st season of competition - earned its 988th win. TXWES volleyball has won 62 percent of its games all-time, the highest win percentage amongst soccer, baseball/softball and basketball.

The Lady Rams are off until next Friday when the Sid Richardson Center will host a pair of home games - Friday October 4 versus University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma. The Drovers are a measly 1-7 in conference through their first eight games. Saturday October 5, Mid-America Christian comes to Fort Worth. The Evangels are off to a hot 6-2 start but have never defeated TXWES in 16 tries.
