Rams open season with 103-65 victory over Arlington Baptist

Bradford led all scorers with 22 points

FORT WORTH, Texas – Senior transfer guard Vydal Bradford led all scorers to ignite Texas Wesleyan to a 103-65 victory over Arlington Baptist (0-1) in the season opener for both teams Saturday at the Sid Richardson Center.

Bradford, a transfer from Texas A&M-Commerce, scored 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Chris Cooley, David Shepard and Davon Berry also scored in double figures for the Rams. Ten of the 13 Rams to play in the game scored.

Texas Wesleyan scored the game's first 12 points and led by as many as 35 points in the first half before taking a 57-27 advantage into intermission. The Rams outscored Arlington Baptist 46-38 in the second half.

Collectively, the Rams connected on half of their 32 3-point tries and also dominated in the paint, where they outscored the Patriots 48-18. For the game Texas Wesleyan shot 54.8 percent from the field (40 of 73) but made only seven free throws on 20 attempts (35 percent). Texas Wesleyan got 42 points off the bench and produced 30 point off of 21 Patriot turnovers.

Da'vione Stafford scored 15 points to lead four Patriot players in double figures. The Patriots (0-1) were limited to just 35 percent shooting from the floor (21 of 60) but connected on 71.4 percent of their free throws (15 of 21).

Texas Wesleyan improved to 5-0 all time against Arlington Baptist.

The Rams (1-0) play host to Dallas Christian College Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Center before welcoming UNT-Dallas Wednesday at 7 p.m.
