FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan Men's Basketball team (2-0) overpowered a scrappy Dallas Christian College (0-1) team in a 95-74 win at the Sid Richardson Center on Monday.
The Rams shot above 50 percent from the field once again, this time led by Payton Salle with 28 points, the second highest output of his career.
The relentless Rams played through some adversity tonight, and managed it well. For most of the contest, the aggressive Crusaders hung around and kept nagging TXWES at every turn. DCC led by as many as six midway through the first half, and kept the lead late at 37-33 with a minute left.
Texas Wesleyan went on an 8-2 run to end the first half capped by a
David Shepard triple and a swipe and score from Sallee to give the Rams a 41-39 lead at the break.
The Rams pulled away in the second half, and led by as many as 22 points on the way to the win.
Each team turned the ball over 31 times in the wild ride, but Rams were +9 in rebounds, +7 in points off turnover, and dominated second chance points 16-2.
David Shepard racked up 17 points in the win.
Bryce Harris notched eight points and seven rebounds, while
Sebastian Karwoski posted seven points, eight boards.
Marshall Calvin dished out six assists in the effort.
The team has now won nine straight against their neighbors to the east.
