DALLAS – The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (9-3) took a resounding 18-3 win over Arlington Baptist University at Horner Ballpark on a frigid Monday evening.
Marcos Sanchez (1-3, 4 RBI) lit up the night sky with a moon shot of the grand slam variety over the right field wall to put an exclamation mark in a lop-sided victory.
Nine different Rams recorded RBI in the win as the team racked up its 11th consecutive victory all-time over Arlington Baptist.
The Rams jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first frame, highlighted by a bases-clearing
Michael Higgins RBI single and two base error.
TXWES added four more in the third after a pair of back-to-back triples to right center from
Tanner Amaral and Higgins led to a
Joaquin Ballesteros two-run single up the middle made it 9-1 Rams early.
The Patriots scored a run in the third on a double steal play, before adding a pair in the fourth after a two-run double down the left field line made it a 9-3 game.
Then came the boom. Sanchez cleared the bases with the grand slam to right, his first of the season, part of a nine run fifth that put the game well out of reach.
Richard Arthur picked up his first win of the season. The junior transfer from Fort Worth tossed four innings, allowing three runs on just two hits. He walked five, but struck out six in the outing.
Michael Higgins went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI. Amaral and
Dominick Padilla each went 2 for 3 with a run batted in.
Amaral leads the team hitting .429 in 28 at bats.
Up next for the Rams comes a nine inning game against Our Lady of the Lake University on Friday, Feb. 14. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Sycamore Park.
