ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (2-6) went 2-1 in day one of the Generals Showdown on Friday. The Lady Rams double dipped Texas A&M – Texarkana (3-3) 2-1 and 13-5 before dropping the third game to No. 18 William Carey (Miss.) (1-1) 10-2.
In game one, the Lady Rams outlasted the Eagles in a low scoring affair. The Eagles opened scoring in the second inning on a Sierra Mihailov RBI double.
TXWES came back in the third, displaying some small ball to tie the contest.
Jenna Rhoades led off the inning with a slap shot for a base hit before
Mercedes Beltran moved the runner on a sacrifice bunt. Sandy Lopez plated the run with a RBI single to make it a 1-1 game.
The Lady Rams added the go-ahead run in the sixth. The inning started with an Eagles error.
Kylie Summers made TAMUT pay by swiping second before
Ashton Davis drove in the run on a base hit for a 2-1 lead that would end up being the final.
In game two, it was all Lady Rams early. Sandy Lopez sent a shot over the left-center wall in the first frame, a 2-run home run for an early lead.
The team put four on the board in the second to take a commanding 6-0 advantage. Rhoades tacked on a RBI single to start the rally. With two away in the inning,
Payton Davidson hit the left-center gap for a RBI double.
Kylie Summers plated another on a rip up the middle before a wild pitch allowed the fourth run to score.
A pair of Lady Ram errors allowed an opening for TAMUT to put up crooked numbers in the fourth and fifth. The Eagles scored five runs in those two inning to close the gap, but Texas Wesleyan kept swinging.
TXWES added a pair in the fourth after an Eagles mishap led to a Davis triple to deep right. Chloe Summers tacked on the second on a liner down the left field line. The flood gates opened in the sixth, with the Lady Rams pouring four more into the run tally for a 12-5 clip. An error allowed another run to score and that put the run-rule into effect and the Rams take the cake again.
In the night cap, the Lady Rams got down early and couldn't recover as William Carey lit up the scoreboard with 13 hits in the 10-2 loss for TXWES.
Davis went 5 for 7 on the day with two RBI.
The team will play (RV) Central Baptist and LSUA at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. respectively.
