MCPHERSON, KS - No. 23 Texas Wesleyan Men's Basketball (19-7, 12-5 SAC) used four players' double-digit scoring efforts to get past Central Christian (11-14, 4-13 SAC) 80-71 Thursday night in Kansas.
Akeem White led all scorers off the bench with 18 points in 23 minutes, coupled with seven boards - five on the offensive end. It's the eighth game in a row White has averaged nearly a point per minute on the floor (127 points in his last 156 minutes since January 25).
Peyton Sallee and
Davon Berry each chipped in 17 points with six and eight rebounds, respectively - Sallee almost exclusively knocked in shots beyond the arc (4-of-5 from deep).
Sebastian Karwoski totaled 11 points and seven rebounds.
Both teams shot 50 percent or better in the first half but sputtered a bit in the final 20 minutes. The Tigers were clamped down more, making just 10-of-30 shots down the stretch.
Between the 11:21 and 4:29 marks of the second half, Central Christian made 10 free throws but went without a bucket from the field. During that stretch, the Rams preserved a precarious four point lead and bumped it up to seven. The largest lead for TXWES in the second half was just 11, but once Texas Wesleyan took the advantage on White's bucket in the paint with 15:41 remaining, the Rams never surrendered the advantage.
