BETHANY, OK - Texas Wesleyan Women's Basketball (13-7, 8-5 SAC) had a three-point lead at the half and scored 27 points in the fourth quarter, but the effort came up just short against Southwestern Christian (15-6, 7-6 SAC) on the road Thursday night, 80-71.
The Lady Rams came out cold in the second half, outscored in the third quarter 20-8 - a tide-turner.
Evie Whorley hit a three with 5:12 left in the frame, but the Eagles had scored 11 in a row to pull ahead by seven by that point. The game followed a similar theme to the first meeting this season. In the Lady Rams 82-77 win at home, TXWESÂ held the Eagles to six points in the third allowing Texas Wesleyan to take control for good and the two teams combined for 50 points in the fourth quarter (the Rams and Eagles combined for 55 points Thursday).
Nicole Gleason led the way with 22 points in 31 minutes, off of five threes in Oklahoma. She had three blocks and three assists with a couple of boards. She's played a team-high 669 minutes, on pace to shatter her season high 792 minutes last year.
Alexus Brigham popped off the bench with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting while
Evie Whorley chipped in 10 points and a team-high six rebounds, all on the defensive end.Â
Texas Wesleyan out-scored SCU in points off turnovers (12-10), second-chance points (10-5) and off the bench (18-11). The lead changed hands eight times.
These two teams can not seem to be able to win on each other's home floor. In the last eight meetings, both teams have won four each, all at home.
University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma also tripped up Thursday in a loss to No. 5 Wayland Baptist. The Drovers will travel to Fort Worth February 13, USAO's only road game in a seven-game stretch almost exclusively at home. The Rams and Drovers are each 8-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference with seven regular season games to go.
