No. 10 Stars take final two games of series

OKLAHOMA CITY - After No. 17 Texas Wesleyan (16-11, 3-3 SAC) earned a triumphant victory on the road Friday in Game 1 over No. 10 Oklahoma City (14-8, 2-1 SAC), the Stars flipped the script Saturday, taking 24-0 and 5-3 victories over the Rams.

TXWES built a 3-2 lead in Game 2 thanks in large part to Marcos Sanchez, whose single and double helped drive in two runs. Tanner Amaral and Michael Higgins turned triples into a RBI, but Higgins was left on base on three separate occasions. OCU rallied and a home run by Dalton Reed broke the tie and gave Oklahoma City the lead for good.

Jesse Ramirez could not match Gabriel Sequeria's 5-0 record, dropping his first game on the mound to fall to 4-1. In the loss, he racked up four more strikeouts. Cameron Calhoun relieved him and kept the Rams within striking distance, but the bats came up just short in the seventh on a ground out, fly out and strikeout to close out a frusterating day.

The wind helped the Stars homer four times in the first game of the day and suffocated the Rams' pitching staff. Ricky Arthur attempted to settle the troops and earned three strikeouts but the damage was already done.

Arlington Baptist comes back to Sycamore Park in the third meeting of the season for mid-week action on Tuesday starting at 2 p.m. before Mid-America Christian will face a motivated Rams team when conference play resumes on Friday in Fort Worth. MACU was swept in its conference opener by No. 3 University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma, but two of the three losses came by just one run apiece. TXWES has won 14 of the last 19 meetings against the Evangels.
