MBB escapes OCU 68-67

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla — Sebastian Karwoski made the go-ahead basket in the paint as the Rams escaped Oklahoma City with an 68-67 win on Thursday night.

After an evenly matched first half with neither team pulling ahead by more than 6 points, the Rams took a 35-32 lead into the break after shooting 13-for-32 on the floor, and the Stars shot 11-for-29 from the field.

TXWES held their lead for much of the second half until around the 5-minute marker when OCU would trade back and forth one possession gains with the Rams.

With under a minute to go, the Rams trailed by a point as OCU's leading scorer, Romario Spence, missed an open layup and the ball went out of bounds for TXWES possession.

Up the court, the Stars batted the ball out of bounds and with 9 seconds left on the shot clock, Marshall Calvin inbounded to Karwoski who gave the Rams the 68-67 advantage with a jumper in the paint.

With 5 seconds left, Romario missed another at the rim, but when TXWES tried to inbound the ball, a wild pass returned possession at the baseline to OCU. However, the Stars would miss their last ditch 3-point try as the buzzer sounded for the Rams victory.

Karwoski finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season and the fourth of his career.

Peyton Sallee led the Rams with 18 points and went 4-for-7 from the arc. Francis Doe had 3 steals.

Romario led the Stars with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

The Rams finished the game shooting 39.4 percent (24-for-61), and the Stars shot 35.9 percent (23-for-64). Both teams made seven treys each and went to the line 22 times, but OCU made one more free throw ended with 14.

TXWES moves to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Oklahoma City is 0-2 overall and in the league.
