FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan baseball team (2-0) scored 33 runs in a pair of wins over Arlington Baptist (0-2) on Opening Day at Sycamore Park. The Rams took game one 20-6 before taking game two, 13-5.
Jose Sosa, a sophomore from Hialeah, Florida, led the way going 3 for 5 with four RBI and a home run.
Greyson Barrett, a sophomore out of Bakersfield, Calif. Also went 3 for 5 with four RBI on the day.
Matt Espinoza saw action for the first time since finishing a second battle with cancer. In the bottom of the fifth inning of game one, his first at bat in a Rams uniform, Espinoza placed a base hit through the left side of the infield.
Morgan McCloud got the start in game one, and the senior transfer out of Waxahachie, Texas got his first win of the season. McCloud threw four innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out eight Patriots. Freshman
Stephen Roberts, a Houston, Texas native, looked sharp in the final inning of game one, allowing no hits to go along with a pair of strikeouts.
In game two,
Luis Lopez-Valdez started on the mound for the Rams. The junior transfer out of West Palm Beach, Florida worked him way out of a jam to finish three hitless, scoreless innings highlighted by six strikeouts. Moltzan also had two strong innings in relief, allowing no runs on a hit, and sat down six in the win.
The Rams will play the finale of this Opening Weekend series with Arlington Baptist on Sunday at 1 p.m.
