Brayden Bahnsen hit a grand slam in the win

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan Baseball team (3-0) completed a series sweep of Arlington Baptist University (0-3) after charging back to win an 11-4 game three at Sycamore Park.

It was a nine run sixth inning that sealed the deal, but it was the two-run fifth inning that was the catalyst. Greyson Barrett tied the game in the fifth with one swing. Barrett, a sophomore criminal justice major, blasted one well over the right center fence that crushed the goose egg and put tipped the momentum scale in favor of the Rams.

Although the Patriots regained the lead with a two run top of the sixth, Brayden Bahnsen and the rest of the lineup followed that up with a grand slam and 11 runs in the bottom half to put the game away.

The bats got off to a slower start on Sunday after a 33 run, 30 hit day on Saturday, but the Rams stayed patient.

"The team was putting good swings on the ball early," said head coach Bobby Garza after the game. "Unfortunately, those balls were hit directly at defenders. We (the coaching staff) told them to stay patient and continue to get their best swings off."

When asked what the team has to do to return from the first road trip of the season without a loss, Garza said, "We will need to get ahead early in those games. We will need a solid practice week to prepare for Lyon College and Oklahoma Wesleyan. Those two teams are top 25 caliber and our bats need to be ready to see good arms."

Bahnsen, a senior business major The Woodlands, Texas, went 2 for 3 with RBI on the Grand Slam to center field. Five more Rams had an RBI, including Barrett, who went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI on the homer to right center.

Max Martinez got the start in game three and had a strong outing despite three walks in three innings. The senior business major from Nuevo Leon, Mexico tossed three scoreless, allowed one hit and struck out four. Marcos Sanchez (1-0) picked up the win in 1.1 scoreless innings. The senior business major had three strikeouts in relief.

TXWES Baseball will take on Oklahoma Wesleyan on neutral ground at Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. The game is set for a noon start on Saturday, February 6. The team will play Lyon College at noon on Sunday, February 7.
