Baseball splits DH at LSU-A

ALEXANDRIA, La. — The Texas Wesleyan Baseball team split a double header at Louisiana State-Alexandria, winning game one 8-4 but falling in the nightcap 4-1 on Friday.

In the opener, Greyson Barrett highlighted the Rams with 3 RBI going 2 for 4 at the plate.

TXWES had 12 hits to the Generals' 8, and hit four doubles and one triple, one of each by Nelson Vera who also batted in a run.

The Rams struck first in the top of the first, as Marcos Sanchez scored on a Ryne Randle double then Randle crossed the plate on a single from Barrett.

TXWES added 4 insurance runs in the third, which kept away LSU-A's four total runs in the game.

Starter Morgan McCloud got his second win of the season pitching 5 innings with 4 hits and 2 runs.

In game two, both teams had just 4 hits apiece, but the Generals got the 4-1 win after TXWES finished with 3 errors to LSU-A's 2.

The Generals plated three in the bottom of the second then extended their lead to 4-0 in the fourth.

The Rams got on the board in the top of the fifth on a sac fly from Randle, but in the sixth TXWES struck out in order. In the seventh, TXWES had two men on base but struck out twice then a fly out ended the game in favor of LSU-A.

Sanchez finished the game 2 for 4 with a double. LSU-A struck out 11 Ram batters and stole 6 bases themselves but were caught twice.

Luis Lopez-Valdez (1-1) was charged with the loss after 3 innings allowing 2 hits and 3 runs, 2 of which were earned and striking out 5 Generals.

The Rams return home on February 9th for a 1 p.m. game with Texas A&M-Texarkana at Sycamore Park.
