FORT WORTH, Texas — The Texas Wesleyan baseball team braved cold temperatures while defeating Texas A&M-Texarkana 12-6 on Tuesday afternoon at Sycamore Park.

It was 38 degrees Fahrenheit at game time but that did not stop the Rams' bats as they out-hit the Eagles 12 to 9 in an offensive battle.
"Our goal going into today was to score early," head coach
Bobby Garza said. "We wanted to play with the lead and get the ball to our bullpen. We had some good offensive situational hitting that helped put pressure on their arms and defense. Managing the weather with the lead was a priority. A special thank you to Coach Shoppach for providing the heaters in the dugout!"

Sophomore
Jose Sosa had a big day, going 3 for 5 with 5 RBI and a double. Senior
Brayden Bahnsen also hit 3 for 5, this batting in 2 and hitting a triple and a double. Senior
Marcos Sanchez went 2 for 4 at the plate, bringing in 3 while hitting a home run and stealing a base.

The win went to
Garrett Moltzan (1-0) who came in the 5
th inning. He allowed 1 hit while striking out 4 of the 10 batters faced.

The loss was charged to Eagles starter Jared Davis who pitched 2 innings allowing 4 hits and 5 runs.

The Rams struck first in the bottom of the first, plating one run on a single. The Eagles would gain the lead in the top of the second with a 2 RBI single.

In the bottom of the second, TXWES tied it with a Bahnsen RBI single then Sosa brought in 3 runs on a double down the left field line for the 5-2 Ram lead.

TAMUT inched within a run scoring on an error and sac fly in the fourth, but the bottom frame featured another Sosa RBI, making it 7-4.

Moltzan came in relief at the top of the 5
th, inheriting runners on first and second. After a hit by pitch left bases loaded, Moltzan struck out two, walked home just one, then finished the jam with a swinging strikeout.

Big bats dominated the bottom of the 5
th as Bahnsen hit an RBI triple and Sanchez hit a 3-run homer extending the Ram advantage to 11-5. Sosa got his 5
th RBI of the day in the seventh inning, making it a 12-5 game.

The Eagles scored one run in the eighth but no more as
Nelson Vera finished the game on the mound, striking out two in the 9
th.

The Rams are now 5-1 on the young season while TAMUT is 3-5.
