Rams split DH with Bellevue

FORT WORTH, Texas —The Texas Wesleyan Baseball team split a double header with Bellevue, taking game one 4-3, but falling 10-5 in the nightcap on Sunday at Sycamore Park.

In game one, the Rams battled back from a 3-0 deficit to tie it in the 4th inning. Jose Sosa hit an RBI triple and TXWES also scored on a sac fly and an error.

The Bruins threatened in the top of the 7th as Garrett Moltzan inherited a no-out bases loaded jam. The Justin, Texas native took care of business, striking out the first batter while catcher Carson Cheaney caught a runner stealing. Moltzan struck out the last batter firing up his team heading into bottom of the frame.

With two outs, Brayden Bahnsen reached on a walk, and then Tyriece Silas, playing in his first game since transferring to TXWES from San Jacinto College, hit a walk off double for the Rams' 4-3 win.

For his effort on the mound, Moltzan earned his second win of the season.

Errors would haunt the Rams in game two as they committed 4 errors to BU's 1, even though TXWES out-hit the Bruins 7-5.

BU had a narrow 2-1 until the 4th inning when they plated four including a 3-run homer. TXWES would not catch up to fall 10-5 by game's end.

Ram highlights included two stolen bases by Bahnsen, 2 RBI from Kaden Brown, a solo homer for Sosa and a RBI double from Matt Espinoza.

Starter Luis Lopez-Vadez (L, 1-2) was charged with loss. He pitched the first 3 innings allowing 3 hits, 4 earned runs while striking out 5.

The teams finish the series with a Monday double header beginning at noon.
