FORT WORTH, Texas —
Makayla Coy tied Texas Wesleyan's single game record for rebounds by grabbing 22 boards in the Rams 75-55 loss to Southwestern Christian on Saturday.
Â
The record was previously set by Onyesonam Nolisa at Johnson & Wales on December 15, 2015.
Â
Coy also scored 24 points to earn her fifth double-double of the season and ninth of her career.
Â
The sophomore forward from Pflugerville, Texas has scored double digits in all 7 of the Rams' games and recorded double digit rebounds in all except two this season. She is TXWES leading scorer averaging 18.3 points per contest.
Â
The other Ram in double figures was
Lindsey Thorpe with a season high 16 points, and she went 4-for-4 from behind the arc.
Â
Alexus Brigham stole the ball seven times from the Eagles, marking a career high for her as well.
Â
While the Rams won the rebounding battle 38 to 35, their shooting suffered against SWCU.
Â
TXWES shot just 17.9 percent from the field in the first half and made 2 of their 9 3-pt attempts but went 7-for-8 at the line.
Â
The Eagles proved to be hot around the arc, making 9 long balls in the first half alone and 16 total in the game. They also shot 48.3 percent on the floor while the Rams finished shooting 24.2 percent.
Â
The Rams were much improved at the charity stripe, making a season high 90.5 percent (19-for-21) while rarely sending SWCU to the line as they would go 3-for-5.
Â
The loss drops TXWES to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The Eagles are 8-2 and 4-2 in the league.
