OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Texas Wesleyan Men's Soccer team fell to an undefeated and third nationally ranked MACU team 2-3 on the road on Saturday.
Despite falling short, the Rams (6-4-2, 1-2-1 SAC) are one of only three teams the Evangels (13-0, 5-0 SAC) have conceded 2 goals to in a match this year. Central Christian (Kan.) and Georgia Gwinnett have also lost to MACU 3-2 this season.
The Evangels came out looking to score early, taking 7 shots in the first 15 minutes. The TXWES defense stood strong, blocking two shots, and getting three saves from senior keeper
Bastian Blumenberg.
After a foul on MACU, the Rams connected on their third attempt as freshman
Mathis Guffroy put the ball in for the first goal of the game. The Rams carried that 1-0 advantage into halftime, defending against 12 first half shots.
Three minutes out of the break, MACU went hot, scoring three goals in the span of 10 minutes for the 3-1 lead by the 58
th minute.
Following the run, the Rams would commit three straight fouls, then off a MACU foul immediately responded with a goal by junior
Oscar Odriozola assisted by Guffroy.
Possession was split the remainder of the match with the Rams taking 5 more shots with nothing doing as they fell to the Evangels.
The Rams remain on the road for a match at Oklahoma City on Oct. 19. TXWES is 4-7-2 versus the Stars.
