MSOC: Rams fall at OPSU in OT

GOODWELL, Okla.-- An overtime goal by OPSU proved to be the difference-maker as the Texas Wesleyan's Men's Soccer team fell to the Aggies on Friday afternoon.

The Aggies outshot the Rams on goal 11 to 6, but TXWES was only able to attempt one shot on target. Senior Keeper Bastian Blumenberg recorded three saves of OPSU's 5 shots on goal.

The Rams started the game off strong attacking early as they earned 5 corner kicks in the first half but were not able to capitalize on those attempts as they were held scoreless in the first half. The Ram's backline defense was stout as they held OPSU scoreless in the first 45 minutes of play.

After being held scoreless in the first half, the Rams finally found the back of the net in the 74th minute as freshman Augustas Aldonis scored his fifth goal of the season - assisted by junior James Kerr - which gave TXWES the lead with 16 minutes left in the game.

11 minutes later OPSU scored in the 85th minute to tie the game with 5 minutes remaining in regulation.

In the 88th minute, OPSU attempted a corner kick that was cleared by the TXWES defense. Neither team was able to get a shot off in the last 2 minutes which took the game into overtime.

In the second overtime period, Jesus Sosa scored the game-deciding goal to fuel OPSU past TXWES.

The loss brings TXWES to 6-6-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Meanwhile, OPSU is now 10-2-1 overall and 6-1-0 in league play.

On Tuesday, Oct. 26 the Rams will be back home at Martin Field to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
