The Texas Wesleyan Rams continue to make history this football season, and Saturday was the latest addition as they blasted Texas College 69-18, completing an unbeaten run at home at Farrington Field.
Â
The victory improved the Rams to 6-2 this season, all Sooner Athletic Conference contests. They clinched their first winning season since the program's revival five years ago after laying dormant for three quarters of a century.
Â
The 69 points are also a team record, eclipsing the record they set earlier this season in a 63-7 home victory against Wayland Baptist on Oct. 2. Texas College (0-9, 0-7 SAC) lost for a 12th consecutive time dating to the 2019 season (2020 was canceled because of COVID-19).
Â
The Rams had the game in control from the outset, leading 17-6 after the first quarter, 45-6 at the half and 52-6 after three periods.
Â
Quarterback
Dalton Dale paced the Rams offensively with four touchdown passes, completing 12 of 20 passes for 123 yards. He had two scoring throws to
Collier Ricks of 16 and 9 yards, along with a pair to P.J. Williams of 15 and 13 yards.
Â
Carson Rogers came in to complete four of his seven pass attempts for 99 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown to
Jaysen Price.
Â
In all, eight players caught a pass for the Rams, led by two catches for 65 yards by Price.
Brandon Rolfe and Williams each hauled in four receptions for 39 yards.
Â
Clint Epperson topped the Rams' running game with 74 yards on eight carries. His 29-yard touchdown run got the scoring started for Texas Wesleyan.
Â
Ty Williams and
Ernest Ceasar each rushed five times for 47 yards. Williams' day included a 4-yard touchdown run.
Â
Eight players carried the ball for Texas Wesleyan.
Â
The Rams defense also got in on the scoring.
Adrian Johnson returned a fumble 30 yards to make the score 14-0 and
Elijah Hall's interception return of 35 yards pushed the lead to 24-6.
Â
Rounding out the scoring for the Rams,
Daniel Trejo booted a 29-yard field goal and was 6-for-6 kicking extra points, while Francisco Casti kicked a 22-yard field goal and was true on all three of his extra-point kicks.
Â
Chance Carroll and
Jamarrion Reed each had seven tackles to lead the Rams defense, followed by
Denaz Ross with six.
Lorenz Rice and
Christopher Deal posted five each.
Â
The Texas Wesleyan defense had 18 tackles for a loss, led by Johnson and Deal with three each. The Rams also posted five sacks, including 1.5 by Johnson, one each by Deal and
Davonn Granger, and a half sack each by
Brandon Orgill, Deijion Jefferson and Ross. Carroll also had an interception.
Â
The Rams dominated not only the scoreboard, but many other aspects of the game, including first downs (29-19), total yards (464-304), passing yards (239-179) and rushing yards (225-125). Ironically, the Steers held a time of possession advantage of 31:16 to 28:44.
Â
The Rams are on the road for their final two regular-season games with slim hopes of reaching the postseason. They travel to NCAA DI University of Central Arkansas (4-4) for a non-conference contest next Saturday (Nov. 6) at 4 p.m. before returning to league play at Lyon College (1-7, 1-6 SAC) on Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.
Â
It will be the first meeting between the Rams and Central Arkansas.
