WSOC: Lady Rams fall 3-1 to #7 JBU

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (5-3-2, 0-2-1 SAC) dropped a 3-1 loss to No. 7 John Brown University (9-1, 4-0 SAC)

The Lady Rams, with limited subs due to injuries, were defensive-minded in the first half against the seventh ranked team in the NAIA, playing with one up top and bolstered back line.

TXWES limited the Golden Eagles to just two shots on goal in the first half, but the patient JBU squad struck first. JBU's Gifte Pavott earned her first goal of the season. Pavott broke loose from defenders and right-footed a shot right at TXWES goalkeeper Julia Villalobos who blocked it about 10 yards from goal, and unfavorable English on the ball allowed it to bounce over keeper and into the goal. Pavott is the 14th different Golden Eagle to score this season.

Pam Seiler added a goal in the 58th for JBU, and the TXWES took a 2-0 deficit into half time.

Texas Wesleyan was more dangerous in the second half, getting off seven shots, one of which was put in by Savanna Baron in the 61st minute, her tenth of the season. Marlye Francis was credited with the assist on the play, finding Barron's foot in a crowded box.

The JBU 1-goal lead was extended back to two in the 64th minute, when Aniyah Gibbs connected with Seiler to make it a 3-1 game.

The Rams would get five more shots off, with the last being on frame from Gracie Spradley that was saved by the JBU keeper.

For the year, the Rams have a goals per game average of 4.50, while limiting opponents to 1.90 gpg. The team has also posted 20 assists. Barron leads the team in goals (10) and is tied with Kirkland Redic for the team lead in assists with four.

The lone loss on the John Brown schedule was to #16 Lindsey Wilson, 2-1.

The Lady Rams will travel to Oklahoma City for a conference clash with Mid-America Christian on Saturday, Oct. 16th. The match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
