VB: Lady Rams rout SAGU

Ruby O'Brien recorded a career-high five aces

FORT WORTH – The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (22-5, 17-2) topped Southwestern Assemblies of God University (21-8, 14-5 SAC) 3-1 at the Sid Richardson Center on Tuesday.

In front of a raucous crowd, the Lady Rams capitalized on some big moments. With the win, the team has clinched at least a share of the regular season conference championship. However, the Lady Rams seem determined to win the regular season title outright. A win on Saturday against John Brown ensures the Lady Rams stand alone at the top and secure an automatic bid to the 42nd NAIA National Championship.

The team hit .244 for the match, including .314 in the final set, winning every statistical category while outscoring the Lions 79-58.

Ruby O'Brien posted a career-high five aces in the win. She also added 12 digs. Veronkia Webb was led the team hitting .393 behind a career-high 15 kills. Morgan Burns matched her career-high with 59 assists, and tallied a career-high six block assists. Nyia Anderson led the team with 16 kills and earned her seventh double-double of the season with 13 digs. Sydney Charlton knocked down 12 kills, while Andrea Malek added 13 digs

In the first set, the team used a 9-0 rally to build a 19-12 advantage before a pair of kills gave TXWES the set, 25-19. The Lady Rams start the second set on an 11-3 run before the Lions caught up at 16-all and it was point-for-point from there with SAGU edging out a 25-23 win to tie the match.

The team would go on to win the next two rather sporadically. TXWES found streaks of 9-1 and 10-1 in the third set, and a pair of 4-0 rallies in the fourth to establish and keep the lead throughout SAGU's offensive bursts. The Rams never trailed throughout the entirety of the third set, and all but the first point of the fourth set for its sixth 20+ win season in the last seven years.

TXWES take on John Brown from the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday, Nov. 6 starting at 1 p.m.
