FORT WORTH, Texas-- The Texas Wesleyan Women's Basketball team opened the 2021 season on Wednesday night with an 87-65 victory over the Lady Steers.
The Lady Rams dominated the glass, out rebounding the Steers, 39-14. The Lady Rams also had 22 second chance points off offensive rebounds. Junior
Makayla Coy recorded 12 rebounds.
Freshman
Zarria Carter recorded the first double-double of her career with 21 points and 10 rebounds on 7 of 13 shooting from the field. Carter also made 7 of her 9 free-throw attempts.
Four of the five TXWES starters scored in double digits. Junior
Makayla Coy had 14 points, grad student Evie Worley scored 15 points, and junior
Kertisa Amos scored 17 points.
The Lady Rams shot 48 percent from the field and made 7 of their 13 three-point attempts (53 percent). The Lady Rams also shot 16-22 from the free throw line (72 percent).
TXWES held Texas College to 65 points and only allowed 16 points in the paint. The Lady Rams also controlled the block on the other end, scoring 38 points in the paint.
TXWES moves to 1-0 on the season and Texas College moves to 0-1. The Lady Rams will travel to Shreveport, LA. on Tuesday Nov. 9 to take on Louisiana State University Shreveport. Tip-off from The Dock is set for 5:30 p.m.
