SHREVEPORT, La. – The Texas Wesleyan women's basketball team (2-0) topped LSU – Shreveport (RV) (3-4) 68-64 at The Dock on Tuesday.
 
The Lady Rams established an early lead and held off a late rally to start 2-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
 
TXWES outscored the Pilots 20-12 in the opening quarter behind 62 percent shooting. LSUS cut into the lead in the second, but it was TXWES taking 7-point lead into the break.
 
The Lady Rams kept the Pilots at arm's length in the third, and led by as many as 13 early in the fourth. Despite a comeback attempt by LSUS, the Lady Rams calmly hit their free throws to hold off the home team for the win.
 
For the game, the team was plus-12 in free throws, plus-10 in the points in the paint (40-30).  The Rams shot 49 percent from the field, while the Pilots shot 46 percent.
 
Four TXWES players scored in double digits. Makayla Coy led the team with 15 points, adding five rebounds. Zarria Carter posted 14 points and nine boards in the win. Kertisa Amos also topped out at 14 points, while Evie Whorley scored 13.
 
The Lady Rams come home to play Huston-Tillotson on Thursday, Nov. 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
