OKLAHOMA CITY – The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (7-1, 2-1 SAC) took a narrow, 78-73 loss to (RV) Mid-America Christian University (9-1, 2-1 SAC) at Gaulke Activity Center on Thursday.
TXWES fell behind early, only to tie the game at 18-18 by the end of the opening quarter. The Lady Rams used a 9-0 rally in the second quarter spanning over five minutes to establish a 32-24 lead. Texas Wesleyan nursed a 7-point lead into the break.
The lead evaporated with a hot start to the second half by MACU and maintained a slight edge into the final quarter.
Makayla Coy earned a three-point play late in the fourth to cut the lead to 64-62 with 2:38 left on the clock. The Evangels were solid from the free throw line down the stretch and outlasted the Lady Rams to the final buzzer.
The Lady Rams shot a season low 36 percent from the field and operated without a critical piece of the program in
Evie Whorley. Whorley suffered a lower body injury in the win over Arlington Baptist.
The Evangels shot 45.5 percent on home court in an efficient night from the field. The starting five for MACU all scored in double digits.
TXWES edged the home team in rebounding at +1, were +7 in steals, +5 in blocks, +5 in points off turnovers, +2 in points in the paint, and +7 in second chance points.
Kertisa Amos led all players with 29 points, adding four steals in the process.
Zarria Carter led all players with 19 rebounds, adding 11 points in her third double-double performance of the young season.
