VICTORIA, Texas – The 13th ranked Texas Wesleyan University women's golf team notched program win number 12 at the 2021 Claud Jacobs Invitational at The Club at Colony Creek golf course, hosted by the University of Houston – Victoria on Monday.
Emily Hunt recorded her second career win.
After dropping out of the top 10 of latest NAIA Women's Golf Coaches' Top 25 Poll announced on Friday of last week, the Lady Rams made short work of the Claud Jacobs tournament. The program gets its first win since winning Oklahoma City's Sydney Cox Invite in October of 2020.
The Lady Rams (317-300-617) turned in some of the best scores of the day and finished 38 strokes ahead of St. Thomas in second.
Hunt shot 2-over in the final round to end the tournament at 5-over, a five shot lead over the rest of the field. She is the third individual golfer in program history to win more than one tournament for the Lady Rams.
Kate Adelmann climbed seven spots to take a share of third place at 14-over.
Annaka Watts made a daring comeback after a disappointing round one. Watts had low round of the day, a 1-under 71, to climb 21 spots and grab a top 5 finish at 15-over with teammate
Emily Isaacson.
Brooke Sullivan improved as well, jumping five spots to take seventh at 16-over.
The Lady Rams held a 13-stroke advantage over second place UT-Permian Basin heading into the final round after turning in a team score of 317 (+29) in round one yesterday.
Quinn Barber, who finished in a share of the tenth spot, led all players with 5 birdies.
Hunt led the field in par 4 scoring at 4.13 (+2), posting 27 pars.
Up next, the team will look for win number 13 at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. The 36-hole tournament at Lincoln Park West is set for April 12-13 in Oklahoma City.
