Baseball drops midweek showdown with USW

Joseph Barfield went 3 for 4 with two RBI

FORT WORTH - The Texas Wesleyan baseball team (13-10) dropped a 15-10 mid-week, non-conference match-up to University of the Southwest (11-17) at Sycamore Park on Tuesday.

It was a high scoring affair on a slightly windy but rather beautiful day in the park, and the bats from both clubs seemed to agree. The two teams collected 33 hits, while 15 different pitchers graced the hill today in a game where each coaching staff got a deep look at their prospective bullpens.

The Rams held a 3-1 lead in the early innings, before the Mustangs exploded in the fifth for six runs. The Rams chipped away in the sixth and seventh, but again the Mustangs went on a tear and posted eight runs in the ninth. The bottom of the ninth saw five rams cross home plate, but eventually the Mustangs got the third out to end the game.

Seven Rams in the lineup posted more than one hit, including Joseph Barfield, who went 3 for 4 with two RBI. Greyson Barrett, current SAC Player of the Week, drove in three runs on a pair of hits including his seventh home run of the season.

The Rams will travel to Victoria, Texas to start a three-game series with the University of Houston - Victoria on Friday, April 2nd. Game one of the double header starts at 1 p.m.
