FORT WORTH, Texas — The Texas Wesleyan Softball team split their doubleheader with Ottawa University Arizona on Friday, dropping game one 6-2 but winning game two in walk-off fashion 5-4 in an extra inning.

In the first game, TXWES had a 2-1 lead after RBI singles from
Kimani Ferguson and
Brynna Foster.
Â
But the late innings belonged to the Spirit as they edged ahead 3-2 on a SAC fly and RBI double. In the seventh, they plated three insurance runs and would win 6-2 after both teams tallied 9 hits and 1 error apiece.

Foster (1-2) pitched 6.2 innings in the loss and went a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate.
Taylor Tubbs hit 2 for 3.

For game two the temperature dropped by 10 degrees with the wind gusting up to 26 mph. The contest was scoreless until the fifth inning when OUAZ scored on a single. TXWES would gain the lead in the bottom of six as Foster bunted and scored
Kylie Summers on a fielders choice. Ferguson batted in her second run of the day making it 2-1.

The top of the seventh saw the Spirit's leadoff batter reach on an error, and she would score after back-to-back hits tied the game at two runs each. In the bottom, the Lady Rams got a runner on but left stranded.

Entering the extra frame, OUAZ automatically had a runner placed on second. The Lady Rams notched two outs, but meanwhile the runner advanced to third. The Spirit got back-to-back hits to score two for the advantage.

Down two runs, a total team effort would lift the Lady Rams to the walkoff victory.

With two runners on,
Ashton Davis singled up the middle to score one. Two strikeouts put the Lady Rams in danger, but they remained locked in as Callie Hendrick doubled home Foster to tie the game 4-4.

Two outs and two runners and with the pressure on,
Mercedes Beltran hit a grounder to the third baseman, but she threw wild to first, allowing Davis to score for the walkoff 5-4 win.

Summers finished the game batting 2 for 4 with 3 stolen bases.
Starter
Taylor Tubbs pitched 7.2 innings allowing two earned runs, but it was
Madison Ortiz (1-0) who picked up the win facing one batter in the eighth.

The Lady Rams are now 3-3 overall and will finish their series with OUAZ (5-8) on Saturday with a 1 pm doubleheader start.
