Baseball falls to LSU-S via walk-off

SHREVEPORT, La. — The Texas Wesleyan Baseball team lost a mid-week nonconference road matchup 9-8 to Louisiana State-Shreveport on Wednesday.

The Pilots (26-12) won in walk-off fashion in the ninth inning scoring on a passed ball. TXWES out-hit the Pilots 11 to 8, but all hits were singles. Both sides committed two errors each.

Marcos Sanchez finished 2-4 with 1 RBI. Jose Sosa hit 2-3 and scored 3 runs. Greyson Barrett had 3 RBI; he leads the Rams with 50 RBI this season.

Closer Garrett Moltzan was charged with the loss. The starter was Matt Moclair who pitched two innings allowing 1 hit, 3 runs, 3 walks and struck out 3.

Appearances from the bullpen included Morgan McCloud, Jalen Evans and Jaxon Ingram.

Jose Sosa scored the first run of the game in the second inning as Matt Espinoza singled him home. LSU-S responded in the bottom with a homer to tie, then plated three runs in the third.

It was TXWES' turn in the fifth for a three-run frame. Tyriece Silas singled then stole second. He would later score on a groundout. Marcos Sanchez singled down the right field line to plate Kaden Brown, and Nelson Vera singled home Sanchez.

The sixth inning saw the Rams take the lead. Silas got his second stolen bag of the game. He and Sosa would score on a Greyson Barrett single, Barrett's third RBI of the game.

TXWES tacked on two more in the seventh in an inning where LSU-S walked four batters. The Rams led 8-4 until the Pilots rallied for 4 runs on 4 hits and an error on the bottom to tie the game again.

Both sides went down in order in the eighth, and despite getting the leadoff man on, the Rams would drop in three straight strikeouts. In the bottom of nine, LSU-S got a leadoff man on a hit by pitch. Two outs later he advanced to third on a single and then scored the walk-off run on a passed ball.

The Rams (20-14) will host Central Christian College (Kan.) in a three-game series this weekend.
