Lady Rams run away with SAC crown

TXWES wins title for second time in three seasons

ARDMORE, Okla. – The 17th ranked Texas Wesleyan women's golf team notched its 14th program win at the 2021 SAC Women's Golf Championships at Dornick Hills on Tuesday. Brooke Sullivan led the way with a second place finish.

The Lady Rams used a 30-stroke lead heading into the final round to capture its second conference title in three seasons. The team shot 317 today to finish at 954, 24 stokes in front of second place Oklahoma City.

"This was a gratifying team win, with everyone staying focused and patient on a tough course in windy conditions," commented head coach Kevin Millikan. "Having a 30 shot lead after the first two rounds was unbelievable, it took a lot of pressure off the team going into the third round, and really validated how we felt about our strategy and approach to the golf course. I couldn't be prouder of the work they've put in to get this title, and now we're focused on the national championship in a few weeks."

Brooke Sullivan finished second to lead the Lady Rams. She was edged by one stroke by OCU's Lauren Behnken. Sullivan shot 3-over in the final round and shot 236 in the three round tourney.

"Brooke has gained a lot of confidence the last couple of tournaments, and it really came together this week," said Millikan. "Her ball striking was excellent, and she gave herself a chance to win late in the round."

Emily Hunt finished in fifth to nab another all-tournament honor, five strokes off the lead at 240. This is her fifth top 5 finish of the season.

"Emily has really taken her collegiate career to the next level this year," continued Millikan. "Her consistency and leadership have been integral to our success, and she just continues to improve in both areas."

Kate Adelmann finished in sixth, six strokes off the lead after shooting 241. She led the Rams in par 3 scoring (3.33) and par 4 scoring (4.43).

Aubrey Zastoupil ended the tournament in a share of seventh with Emily Isaacson at 242, while Annaka Watts took a tenth place finish at 246, her fourth top 10 of the season.

Isaacson led the field in birdies with 8, while Sullivan and Watts led all players in pars with 31 each. Zastoupil had 30 pars in the tournament.

The 2021 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships will be held May 25-28 at Rose Creek. The NAIA had set the tournament for Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Mich., but the NAIA Championships have been moved due to concerns regarding the higher COVID-19 rates and corresponding restrictions on athletics events in the state of Michigan.
