VICTORIA, Texas — The Texas Wesleyan Baseball team swept their series finale 7-2 at University of Houston-Victoria on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Yesterday the Rams took down the Jaguars 8-6 and 14-4 in a double header.
Â
In an interview with NAIA Ball, Head coach
Bobby Garza said getting the sweep helps get the Rams back into a rhythm after some roadblocks encountered early in the year.
Â
"We struggled early in the season with COVID-19 issues and the winter storm," Garza said. "It inhibited us from getting into a flow. It was really good to get down here to Houston-Victoria and get away with a sweep. We finally got some momentum going and are looking to sustain it."
Â
The Rams out-hit the Jaguars 8 to 5 with
Greyson Barrett having a 3 for 5 day at the plate, and he blasted his tenth homer of the year.
Jose Sosa hit his third home run of the season.
Â
Brayden Bahnsen went 1 for 2 with a 2 RBI triple.
Ryne Randle also hit 1 for 2 with 2 RBI. He hit a one-run double and a SAC fly.
Â
Garza commented that the last couple weeks have been really good for his offense.
Â
"The hitters have done a really good with the fastball and staying with the off-speed pitches," Garza added. "We've kind of adapted a deal where no one has to be perfect here, you just got to be you. The lineup has done a really good job and we're looking forward to next week.
Â
Starter
Jalen Evans improves to 2-0 on the hill. In his longest outing this season, he pitched 6.2 innings allowing 5 hits, 2 runs and 1 walk while striking out eight.
Â
Garza said, "You could see the confidence he would gain as the game went on and having him hit 94-95 mph. That's something he's been working really hard on so we're proud of him."
Â
Evans said, "Everything felt really smooth; trusting my teammates and trusting myself to get ahead. That's what Coach Garza has been preaching, the first two out of three just let everything happen."
Â
Garrett Moltzan and
Matt Moclair closed out the game from the bullpen, with no hits or runs allowed from the Jaguars.
Â
Next, the 16-10 Rams will host Jarvis Christian on Tuesday for a single nine inning game before hosting No. 15 USAO who has one of the best pitching staffs in the country.
Â
Evans finished, "We know what we are capable of doing. Lack of focus is missing sometimes but this is a big win for us helping to get that focus back because we got a tough schedule coming up…We know it's not going to be easy. We know what they are capable of, but they'll find out what we're capable of as well."
