Long Ball dominates DH split with OSPU

FORT WORTH, Texas — Five home runs were seen between both teams as Texas Wesleyan split its first double header of the four-game series with Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday.

The Rams won the series opener 2-0 behind back-to-back homers from Taylor Tubbs and Mercedes Beltran in the fifth inning.

Brynna Foster (6-5) picked up the complete game win in the circle as she shutout the Aggies allowing six hits and striking out six with one walk.

In game two, OPSU struck first in the top of the first on an RBI single, the doubleheader's only run that did not come from a long ball. In the fourth, Kylie Summers tied the game with a solo homer, her first of the year.

But the next frame saw two homers from the Aggies as they grabbed the 5-2 advantage. Madison Ortiz came out of the bullpen and prevented OPSU from scoring insurance runs and limited them to just one more hit while walking one.

In the last three innings, the Rams had five hits and had five on base but could not cross the plate.

Starter Tubbs (3-5) was charged with the loss after 4.2 innings where she allowed eight hits and five runs and struck out six Aggies.

TXWES is now 10-10, 9-7 SAC, and OPSU is 14-20, 8-14 SAC.

The teams finish their series Friday with a noon double header start.
