Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WSOC has 2-0 weekend

FORT WORTH, Texas — The TXWES Women's Soccer team brought in a pair of wins in dominant fashion this weekend, beating Arlington Baptist 12-1 and Jarvis Christian 4-1 at Martin Field.

The Lady Rams are 3-0 to start the season and have outscored their opponents 21-4 so far despite missing key players due to COVID-19 protocols.

"I'm really proud of the players," head coach Josh Gibbs said. "Without our full complement of players, and all they have been through, it's really impressive what they have been able to accomplish."

Newcomer junior Cara Zwilling has been a standout for the Lady Rams. She scored her second hat trick in a row in the win over ABU. Her first was in the 5-2 season opening win versus Texas A&M San Antonio, which earned her Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.

She capped off the weekend with a goal in the 31st minute against Jarvis Christian on Saturday bringing her total to 7.

Also, with hat tricks on Friday against ABU were freshman Mikayla Trevino and senior Savanna Barron. Trevino had two assists in that game and Barron one.

Barron, who picked up All-SAC honors last season, scored the second goal of the game versus JCC in the third minute, following Vanessa Soriano's goal in the first minute. Soriano scored in the ABU game as well.

Kristen Carter, Julia Villalobos and Kirkland Redic each found the back of the net this weekend, too.

On the defensive end, freshmen Amia Harris and Rylee Beene did a great job defending the goal as keepers. Harris had 3 saves and Beene had 1. The Lady Ram defense only allowed 2 goals this weekend and 8 shots from the opposition. Comparatively, TXWES took 52 shots total.

"Some freshmen have been thrust into contributing immediately," Gibbs finished. "That's often a hard transition, and they have all shown incredible development and attitude. I cannot put into words how proud I am."

The Lady Rams hit the road for their next match at Houston-Victoria on Friday, Sept. 3 and return for a three game homestand at Martin Field.
