Villalobos sets career high, WSOC falls in 2OT

VICTORIA, Texas — Senior Julia Villalobos made a career high 14 saves in the Lady Rams' 3-2 double overtime loss at Houston-Victoria on Friday afternoon.

The Hurst, Texas native bested her career high by 3 as she previously notched 11 saves during the spring season opener vs Science and Arts (Okla.) on Feb. 23, 2021.

Against Houston-Victoria, Villalobos made 6 saves in each half and 2 in the first overtime period. Her season total is now 19 saves in just two games played as goalkeeper this fall.

The Lady Rams were the team to strike first as senior Kristen Carter found the back of the net off an assist from junior Reyna Soltero in the 15th minute. The Jaguars responded six minutes later to tie the match at one.

Five minutes into the second half, the Jags scored again and held the lead until the 87th minute when senior Savanna Barron tied it once more on a shot into the upper right corner of the goal.

After a scoreless first overtime, the Jags would take it home with a goal just under five minutes into the second overtime.

It is the Lady Rams first loss of the season as they are 3-1, while Houston-Victoria moves to 2-0.

TXWES will be back at Martin Field for a three match homestand beginning Sept. 6.
