FORT WORTH, Texas — The Texas Wesleyan Women's Soccer team finished their match with Southwestern College (Kan.) in a double overtime 1-1 tie on Monday afternoon at Martin Field.
The Lady Rams struck first with a goal in the 18
th minute by senior
Danielle Trought in her first appearance of the Fall 2021 season. Her goal came off an assist by sophomore
Sierra Reich.
However, five minutes before the half, the Moundbuilders came back with an equalizer in what would be the final goal of the game.
Neither team would score again through two overtime periods ending in a 1-1 draw.
"It was a very disappointing day," said head coach
Josh Gibbs. "We were a brilliant
Julia Villalobos penalty save from taking a loss. We were hoping to right the ship after the loss to UHV (University of Houston-Victoria).
"We were just flat for 110 minutes. I simply didn't have them ready to play. It falls on me. We have to get back to work in training this week."
Senior goalkeeper Villalobos finished the game with 5 saves, including a clutch save on a penalty kick in the 106
th minute. Through 3 appearances in the- goalbox this season, she has recorded 24 saves.
The Lady Rams are now 3-1-1 and will be back at Martin Field on Sept. 10 to host Bacone College.
