FORT WORTH – The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (8-4, 5-1 SAC) topped Science & Arts University (7-8, 0-6 SAC) in straight sets in (25-12, 25-9, 25-14) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.
The Lady Rams faced off against the Drovers for an early afternoon bout. Science & Arts lost in three sets to top-SAC team SAGU yesterday, but there are no more easy wins in the Sooner Athletic Conference. A much-improved Drovers squad flashed many moments of well-played, organized volleyball and made TXWES earn the win. However, the established and hard-hitting Lady Rams overpowered Science & Arts, hitting a scorching .435 for the match.
TXWES had rattled off rallies of 6 or more points multiple times in each of the three sets played today, the largest being a 9-0 rally to end the second set with four different Rams scoring during the run.
Nyia Anderson paced the Lady Rams with 12 kills, showing great touch and power in a complete performance.
Bailey Foy also was as sharp as ever, to the tune of 12 kills on just one error on 16 attempts, hitting .688 in the process.
Veronika Webb added eight kills and got in on a pair of blocks.
Morgan Burns led all players with 28 assists and four service aces.
Sydney Charlton posted a clean sheet attacking the ball. She went 7-0-10 to hit .700 in limited action.
Skylar Warde and Pressley Whitehead each hit double digits in digs, 11 and 10 respectively.
Malia Linton and
Katelyn Mallett added well-timed solo blocks to keep the Lady Rams defense humming.
The Lady Rams have won seven consecutive matches and head into a six-game road stretch of tough conference opponents.
TXWES travels to Goodwell, Okla. for a SAC showdown with the Aggies. The match schedule for Friday, Sept. 24th at 6 p.m.
