VB sweeps OPSU, falls at Wayland

PLAINVIEW, Texas — The Texas Wesleyan Volleyball team split a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference matches on the road this weekend, sweeping Oklahoma Panhandle State on Friday but falling to Wayland Baptist on Saturday.

On Friday, the Lady Rams won 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-18) over the Aggies. Bailey Foy led TXWES with 15 kills hitting .667 paired with 5 blocks. Sydney Charlton followed with 10 kills and Veronika Webb 7 kills.

Morgan Burns finished with 34 assists and 3 blocks, while Nyia Anderson had a team high 13 digs.

Against WBU on Saturday, the Lady Rams dropped the first two sets 16-25 and 13-25 before coming back 25-14 in the third. The fourth set was full of back-and-forth action with 12 ties and 7 lead changes.

TXWES reached set point on a WBU blocking error, but the Pioneers would knock down three straight kills to win the set and match, 24-26.

Charlton put down a career high 22 kills on a .500 attack percentage. Her previous best was 21 kills, which she recorded earlier this month against Doane University.

Morgan Burns matched her career high with 50 assists. Last season she also recorded 50 assists versus Wayland Baptist.

Bailey Foy finished with 13 kills and 8 blocks, while Skylar Warde tallied a team high 18 digs.

The Lady Rams continue play on the road for their next four matches beginning with a stop at Southwestern Assemblies of God on Sept. 28.
