FORT WORTH — The Texas Wesleyan men's basketball team (15-4, 8-3 SAC) defeated John Brown University (11-8, 5-6) 77-54 on Saturday afternoon at the Sid Richardson Center.
The Rams jumped out to a 20-11 lead in the first 12 minutes of the game as TXWES started the game off strong. The Rams scored 9 points in the last 8 minutes of the first half. The home team played stifling defense in the first half as they only allowed the Golden Eagles to score 19 points on 7 of 28 shooting (25 percent) in the first half.
The Rams turned stellar defense into great offense as they scored 14 fast break points. TXWES outscored JBU 48 to 35 in the second half. The Rams tightened their defense as they held JBU to 41 percent shooting from the field for the game.
Vydal Bradford led the Rams scoring a season high 28 points on 9 of 13 shooting from the field (69 percent.) Bradford also made 8 of his 9 free-throw attempts.
The Rams dominated the boards as they hauled in 37 rebounds and scored 34 points in the paint. Kristan Lafayette energized the Rams in the second half with two big time blocks. Lafayette recorded four blocks.
TXWES had four players score in double figures. Senior
Vydal Bradford had a season high 28 points, junior Kristan Lafayette had 11 points, freshman
Matthias Nero had 10 points, and senior
Sebastian Karwoski had 10 points.
The Rams move to 13-6 all-time against JBU. TXWES will travel to Waxahachie on Thursday,Jan.20 to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University at 7:45 p.m.
