BETHANY, OK --The Texas Wesleyan women's basketball team (18-3,12-3 SAC) defeated Southwestern Christian (11-11,6-10) 65-57 on Saturday afternoon in Bethany, Oklahoma.
The Lady Rams received a huge lift from junior
Makayla Coy as she recorded a double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Freshman
Zarria Carter scored 20 points on 8 of 19 shooting.
The Lady Rams continued their dominance in the paint with 32 points and 12 second chance points. TXWES shot 18-25 from the free-throw line (72 percent) which helped the Lady Rams hold off the Eagles.Â
TXWES shot 32 percent from the field and 27 percent from the three-point line. The Lady Rams recorded their 18th win of the season. This is the most wins in a season for TXWES since the 2016-2017 season.Â
With 7 games left in the regular season, the Lady Rams have a chance to win 25 games this season, which would be the most since the 2011-2012 season. The 1978-1979 team won 29 games in a season, which is the most in program history.
The Lady Rams turned great defense into great offense as they scored 19 points off turnovers. The Lady Rams are in third place in the Sooner Athletic Conference. TXWES is a game and a half behind MACU and Wayland Baptist who are tied for first in the conference.
The Lady Rams move to 9-8 all-time against Southwestern Christian University. TXWES will travel to Chickasha, oklahoma on Monday, Jan. 31 against the University of Science and Arts.
