FB: Rams snap the Lions streak for the SAC Game of The Week

The Texas Wesleyan Rams (6-1, 5-1 SAC) faced off against the Langston University Lions (5-1, 4-1 SAC) in Fort Worth, Texas, Saturday for their fifth-ever matchup in conference play.

TXWES started the first quarter with WR Jaysen Price scoring the first touchdown for the Rams on an 84-yard kickoff return, giving the Rams a quick lead of 8-0 within the first 10 seconds of the game, including a 2-point conversion from TE Cameron "Cam" Chapman

The TXWES defense would stop the Langston offense on the next drive ending in HB Darren White blocking a punt attempt on fourth down for a 4-yard loss. Able to capitalize on the turnover, K Armando Benitez kicked a field goal from the 26-yards to increase the Rams' lead to 11-0.

On the next series, the TXWES defense forced the Lions to punt on fourth down, giving the Rams a chance to start on their 43-yard line. The four-play drive resulted in a 40-yard rushing touchdown by RB Ernie Ceasar and a 2-point conversion by LB Dylan Pettway, making the score 19-0.

On the ensuing drive, the Ram defense stopped a 10-play drive by the Lions. Ceasar started the drive for the Rams with a 49-yard run from their 18-yard line following a 24-yard pass completion from QB Dale Dalton to Chapman, placing TXWES on Langston's 9-yard line. Dale finished the five-play drive with a 4-yard rushing touchdown making the lead 26-0 before the end of the first.

The Rams struggled to score in the second quarter but held the Lions to only one touchdown in the first half.

After the Lions scored at the start of the third quarter, the Lions and the Rams went one drive a piece, not allowing each other to score. After a failed drive, the Lions were forced to punt, but the Rams received a false start penalty resulting in a 5-yard penalty for the Lions. The Rams' defense stopped the fourth down attempt on Langton's 42-yard line resulting in a 1-yard loss. Dale increased the Ram lead with a 41-yard pass to Ceasar.

The defense came back onto the field with another critical stop, resulting in a blocked punt by DB Vondrice LaFrance, but the Rams could not convert on the turnover.

The Rams had a few tricks up their sleeves by converting a trick play on fourth down with Pettway completing a 23-yard touchdown pass to Chapman. The Rams would stop the Lions' offense again, giving them another scoring opportunity.

RB Nick David West was able to cap the final score for the Rams with an incredible 52-yard rushing touchdown, despite Langston scoring one last time before the end of the game.

Dale finished the game on 6-17 attempts for 88 yards, one passing touchdown, six rushes for 36 yards, and one rushing touchdown.
