The Rams dropped their second conference game 1-0 in a physical road game against Southwestern Christian University.Â
Â
The loss puts Texas Wesleyan at 0-2-0 in SAC play and 7-3-0 overall.Â
Â
Neither team was able to score in the first period as Southwestern's shots went wide, and Texas Wesleyan was denied shot-after-shot with saves by Eagle goalie Salvatore Della Vall.
Oscar Odriozola's shot at 1:43 was stopped;
James Kerr's header at 5:33 was stopped; Kerr had another shot at 7:10; Odriozola had a shot at 14:37, and Augustus Aidonis was stopped at 15:16. After that barrage of shots, the Rams were only able to get off one additional shot before the half.
Â
The first half was riddled by fouls as Southwestern had 10 of their 20 fouls in the first period. Texas Wesleyan had nine total fouls in the game with five of those in the first period.
Â
In the second period, a yellow card on Texas Wesleyan's
Jonathan Lopez was followed less than two minutes later with the only goal of the game from Southwestern Christian's Kodai Tanaka, his first of the season.Â
Â
Two additional yellow cards were called on the Rams, including one on the whole team. Southwestern also had two yellow cards in the second half and 10 additional fouls.Â
Â
Earlier in the season, the Rams beat the Eagles 3-1 at home in non-conference play, but historically, Southwestern Christian held a 9-4 record against the Rams prior to the game, with the Rams getting only one win in Bethany, Oklahoma.
Â
The Rams will be looking for their first SAC win when they host the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at Martin Field Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. The last time the Rams beat the Drovers was in 2016 with another game ending in a tie in 2018.Â
