Box Score The Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams handed the University of the Science and Arts Drovers their first loss of the season with a decisive 80-56 win.
The win put the Lady Rams atop the Sooner Athletic Conference at 6-0 and 8-1 overall. USAO, who came into the game ranked #17 in the latest NAIA polls, falls to second place at 6-1 in SAC and 11-1 overall.
In the first quarter, USAO jumped out to an early 9-4 lead, but the Drovers managed only a 1-point lead at 11-10 before Texas Wesleyan took over and dominated the game.
The Lady Rams led at the end of every quarter and went ahead by as much as 26 points in the fourth quarter, scoring 25 second-chance points and nabbing 23 offensive rebounds to USAO's 12 second-chance points and 14 offensive rebounds. The Lady Rams scored 21 points off of turnovers to USAO's 9 with 10 steals. USAO only managed five steals.
Texas Wesleyan still struggled with shots from the field at 38.2%, but the Drovers also had an off night, shooting just 32.3% from the field. The Lady Rams also held the free throw advantage, shooting 82.6% from the line hitting 19 of 23, while the Drovers hit 15 of 20 free throws for 75% from the line.
The Lady Rams continued to make use of a strong bench, with every player on the team logging minutes and providing 21 bench points, while the Drovers only had ten bench points.
Zarria Carter led all players with 22 points. She also added six rebounds, one block and two steals.
Makayla Coy had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Taryn Wills scored 14 points, and
Keara Felix scored eight points.
Kertisa Amos nabbed nine rebounds and added six points.
The Lady Rams travel to Nacogdoches for an exhibition game against Stephen F. Austin on Thursday, Dec. 15. They return to SAC play with a home game on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 6 p.m. against Concordia University of Nebraska.
