MCPHERSON, Kan. – The Texas Wesleyan men's basketball (19-9, 12-8 SAC) topped Central Christian (11-16, 5-15 SAC) 69-52 on Tuesday.
TXWES Men's Basketball is now 7-1 all-time against Central Christian and are winners of the last three contest between the two institutions.
The lead changed hands six times in the first half before the Rams were able to secure a 7-point lead at the break.
Elijah Elliott broke a 19-19 tie with a triple to spur a 13-2 run and get some breathing room with under five minutes left in the opening half before taking a 35-28 advantage into the break.
The Rams never trailed in the second half, leading by as many as 19 on the way to another conference win.
The team shot 49 percent from the floor tonight, its most efficient effort since Jan. 31 vs Science & Arts (53%). The Rams received 23 points off the bench and was 37.5 percent from downtown.
TXWES was led by
Lamine Komara's 15 points, his second highest output of the season. Elliott poured in 13 points in the win.
Peyton Sallee and
Vydal Bradford each had 10 for the Blue and Gold.
Sallee is now the seventh all-time scorer in program history. He sits at 1,306 career points. In sixth is David Weber's (1962-66) 1,417 points. Kenny Kenvin (1990-94) is the all-time scorer at 1,838 career points.
With two regular season game remaining on the schedule, the Rams are in fourth in the SAC standings. If the team stays in the fourth spot, they will host a quarterfinal game in the SAC tournament. The Sooner Athletic Conference recently announced the expansion of the conference tournament from eight teams to all 12 members. Seeds 5-8 will host seeds 9-12 in a play-in game on Feb. 22 before seeds 1-4 host the winners of the play-in games on Feb. 24.
The Rams host Oklahoma City in a payback opportunity on Thursday, Feb. 17. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. With a win, TXWES could retake the third position in the conference standings.
