SANTA CLARITA, CA.-- The Texas Wesleyan baseball team (4-2) lost both games of a doubleheader against The Master's University (7-2) on Friday afternoon at Lou Herwaldt Stadium in Santa Clarita, California. The Rams lost by scores of 16-8 and 3-0.

The Rams hit the field looking to duplicate their offensive performance of last week. TXWES was one run shy of tying the record for most runs scored in a single game with 25 runs, and scored a total off 77 runs last week.

As a pitching staff, TXWES allowed 24 hits and 19 total runs in 16 innings of play, and on the other side of things the Rams recorded 12 hits and 8 runs in two games on the afternoon.

In game 1, after 5 innings the Rams trailed 1-0 as Morgan McCloud pitched 5 solid innings and recorded 5 strikeouts. McCloud was not able to record an out in the 6th inning as he gave up 4 earned runs in the inning. 

In the top half of the 7th inning, the bats of TXWES came alive as they scored 5 runs. Tomas Sanchez blasted a grand slam to clear the bases and make the score 5-4. Sophomore Hayden Hutchins scored Greyson Barrett on an error to tie the game at 5 heading to the bottom of the 7th inning. 

In the bottom half of the 7th inning, The Master's University answered with an 8 run inning to take a 13-5 lead into the 8th inning. The Rams scored 3 runs in the top half of the 8th inning as Greyson Barrett scored Chaesten Chon and Joseph Barfield on a sacrifice fly. 

The Rams were not able to overcome the explosive offensive performance of the Mustangs as they fell 16-8.

In game 2, Ian Landreneau pitched 4.1 innings, giving up 2 earned runs with 4 strikeouts, also allowing 6 hits. The Rams only had 3 hits in the second game as TXWES found itself in a low scoring pitching stalemate. The only Rams to bolster hits in the game were Jake Ervin, Hayden Hutchins, and Jose Sosa.

David Theriot put together a solid pitching performance in a limited time. Theriot pitched 1.2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 run, and 1 walk. The Rams effort came up short with a hard-fought 3-0 loss to the Mustangs. 

TXWEs moves to 0-2 all-time against The Master's University. The Rams will finish up the three-game series with The Master's University at 4 p.m. (CST) at Lou Herwaldt Stadium.
