SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Texas Wesleyan baseball team (RV) (4-3) dropped the finale of a three-game series, 15-3 at The Master's University (8-2) on Sunday afternoon.
 
TMU did enough damage in the first three innings of the contest to get the win despite being shutout in the remaining seven.
 
The Mustangs took full advantage of home field with a four-run first inning, but the Rams cut the lead in half in the the second, starting with a Jose Sosa RBI single into left that scored Joseph Barfield from second base after he reached on a walk. Marcos Sanchez followed suit in the next at bat with a RBI single ripped up the middle and off the pitcher to score Sosa.
 
TMU erased the ground made up by TXWES with a five-run second inning and a six-run third to drive the score to 15-2 before the Rams were able to stop rally.  
 
Three scoreless innings followed before the Rams got a run back in the seventh. Tomas Sanchez led off the inning with a walk before Greyson Barrett singled to left. A balk put both runners in scoring position before Jake Ervin tallied a RBI on a fielder's choice play, making it 15-3.
 
The Rams shutout the Mustangs for seven innings, but the first three innings were more than enough for TMU to hold off TXWES.
 
Sosa went 4 for 4 with one RBI. Matt Espinosa went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. Barrett was 2 for 5 on the day.
 
The team will stay on the road in a mid-week clash at Huston-Tillotson University. The single, 9-inning game is set for Tuesday, February 8 at 2 p.m. in the Texas state capital.
