The Texas Wesleyan baseball team (5-4) defeated Huston-Tillotson (2-4) 24-13 in game 1 and suffered a 4-2 loss in game 2 on Tuesday afternoon at Downs Field in Austin, Texas.
The Rams scored 24 runs in game 1, which marks the fourth game this season that TXWES has scored 20 or more runs. The Rams showcased their offensive firepower with 21 hits and 22 RBI's. The Rams racked up 6 doubles and 3 homeruns in game 1.
Sophomore
David Theriot pitched 3 innings, giving up 3 hits, no earned runs, and recording 4 strikeouts. Theriot picks up his first win of the season with a solid performance on the mound.
TXWES had 6 players record three or more hits on the afternoon. Sophomore
Hayden Hutchins blasted 2 homeruns and racked up 8 RBI's on 3 hits. Hutchins was one RBI short of breaking the program record for most RBI's in a single game which was notched by Al Hemlee with 9 in 1983 against Dallas Baptist.
Senior
Joseph Barfield recorded 3 hits, scored 4 runs, and had 4 RBI's. Barfield also earned 3 walks as TXWES blitzed Huston-Tillotson 24-13.
In game 2, TXWES was not able to repeat the same offensive magic it had in game 1, as the Rams fell by a score of 4-2.
HTU blitzed the Rams for 4 runs in the bottom half of the first inning. Sophomore
Stephen Roberts gave up 4 earned runs in the first inning.
Through 5 innings of play, the Rams were not able to cross a runner past home plate as HTU led 4-0. The Rams recorded 6 hits in game 2.
Tomas Sanchez blasted an RBI triple and Jospeh Barfield also recorded an RBI for the Rams only two runs in game 2.
TXWES moved to 7-1 all-time against Huston Tillotson. The Rams will host Sterling College on Friday, Feb. 11 at the Texas Rangers Youth Academy with first pitch set for 10:30 A.M.
