FORT WORTH-- The Texas Wesleyan baseball team (23-13, 10-5 SAC) defeated Southwestern Christian University (16-17, 1-10) in a DH on Saturday afternoon at Sycamore Park to complete a three-game series sweep.
Marcos Sanchez started the scoring for the Rams with a no doubt homerun to give TXWES a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Freilin Cabrera responded in the third inning with a three-run homerun blast to give SCU a 3-2 lead. It did not take long for TXWES to regain the lead as
Greyson Barrett smashed a two-run blast over the right center field wall to make the score 4-3 after 4 innings of play.
In the fifth inning Razzy Mavarez drove in O'Shea Whiteside to tie the game at 4. In the bottom half of the inning
Joseph Barfield hit the game deciding homerun to make the score 5-4. TXWES held SCU scoreless in the last two innings to secure the victory.
Justin Ward pitched four innings, allowing three earned runs, three hits, and recording three strikeouts.
David Theriot picked up the win to improve to 7-1 after pitching two innings and giving up no runs.
Cory Didier recorded his first save of the season to close the game out after pitching 1 inning.
Marcos Sanchez was hot at the plate as he recorded three hits in three at-bats, including two RBI's and a homerun.
In game 2, TXWES hit four homeruns in an offensive explosion to top SCU. The Rams pulled away from the Eagles with a five run third inning to increase its lead to 8-0.
Trey Erwin drove in a run on a sacrifice fly,
Manny Luna scored on a wild pitch,
Marcos Sanchez ripped a two run double down the line, and
Aiden Kenney blasted a homerun to cap the third inning off.
SCU scored four runs in the next two innings to cut the deficit to four runs. TXWES scored seven runs in the fifth inning. The inning started with a three-run blast by
Greyson Barrett, followed by another homerun by Kevin Santiago to make the score 14-4. The inning was capped off by a
Hayden Hutchins single to increase the lead to 15-4. TXWES scored four more runs in the sixth inning to extend its lead to 19-4 and held the Eagles scoreless in the top of the seventh inning to secure the victory.
Cory Didier picks up the win to move to 2-2 on the season after pitching 2.2 innings, striking out for batters, and allowing no runs. Kenny recorded three hits and three RBI's on the day, including a homerun blast.
TXWES will face Jarvis Christian College on Tuesday, April 5 at 2 p.m.
