FORT WORTH-- The Texas Wesleyan softball team (17-13, 11-9 SAC) split a DH against #1 Oklahoma City University (29-4, 15-3) on Saturday afternoon at Sycamore Park. Game one took eight innings to decide as TXWES won 4-3 and OCU won game two 5-3.
In game one, the Lady Rams started the first inning off strong as
Rhea-Ann Avalos blasted a two-run homerun to give TXWES a 2-0 lead. In the third inning,
Brynna Foster blasted a solo homerun to left-center field to extend the Lady Rams lead to 3-0.
The TXWES defense held OCU scoreless for the first five innings. The Stars battled back to tie the game at three in the top of the seventh inning. The game needed an extra inning to be decided. In the bottom of the eighth inning,
Brynna Foster hit a walk-off single to secure a 4-3 victory for the Lady Rams.
Dylann Kaderka put together a solid performance on the mound, pitch eight innings and allowing three earned runs, and eight hits. Kaderka also recorded eight strikeouts. Brynna foster recorded two hits and two RBI's in four at-bats and
Rhea-Ann Avalos went one for three with a homerun and two RBI's.
In game two, OCU struck first with a bunt to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. TXWES responded with a solo homerun by
Breanna Leathers to tie the game at one. In the fourth inning,
Rhea-Ann Avalos crushed a homerun to give the Lady Rams a 2-1 lead.
Breanna Leathers picked up an RBI to make the score 3-1.
OCU scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure a 5-3 victory.
Taylor Tubbs pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three earned runs and recording three strikeouts in 32 batters faced. Avalos recorded three hits and one RBI and Leathers recorded two hits and two RBI's.
The Lady Rams will face Arlington Baptist on Monday afternoon at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
