FB: Rams Win Home Opener Against ASUCQ

RB Ernie Caesar Named MVP of Global Clasico for Rams

On August 27th, 2022, the Texas Wesleyan Rams (TXWES) took on Arkansas State University Campus Queretaro (ASUCQ) at Farrington Field in Fort Worth, Texas.

In the first quarter, the Rams started the game by receiving the kickoff and scoring after a seven-play drive with a touchdown pass from Quarterback Dalton Dale to Starting Wide Receiver PJ Williams giving them a 7-0 start. After a failed endeavor from ASUCQ, running back Ernie Caesar takes off from the 55 yards line of their opposing side, extending their lead to 14-0.

The ensuing drive by ASUCQ led to a scoring interception by starting defensive back LaFrance Vondrice, giving them an extended 21 to 0 lead. The next drive led to a fourth down by ASUCQ. Linebacker Javari Sanders blocks the attempted punt and lands on the ball to score another for the Rams, leaving the score 27-0 after a missed field goal before the end of the first quarter.

Coming right out of the gate of the second quarter of the game, Dalton Dale completes a touchdown pass to Jaysen Price for 19 yards giving the Rams a lead of 34-0. With another failed drive by ASUCQ, Running Back Nick David-West rushes for a 28-yard touchdown giving Wesleyan a lead of 40-0. With an excellent defensive effort from the Rams, the offense comes out after a failed drive by ASUCQ, with Ernie Ceasar getting another touchdown, 36 yards, giving the Rams a score of 48-0 before the end of the second quarter.

The score was 48-0 at halftime.

Coming out of halftime, both teams gave reasonable defensive effort for 12 minutes of the third quarter, not letting each other score. That is until the second to last drive of the quarter, with defensive back Kareem Walker getting an interception before the final movement in the third quarter. From then on, the game was purely defensive from both sides, but that did not stop Kicker Armando Benitez from kicking two more field goals after they failed to score on each drive, with a final score of 54-0.

Texas Wesleyan had a total of 439 offensive yards while ASUCQ finished with negative 4 yards total offense. The MVP for the Rams was running back Ernie Caesar, finishing with 112 yards on four attempts and two rushing touchdowns.

TXWES Football starts the season undefeated with a 1-0 record.

Next game: September 10th at 7:00 PM, the Rams will play Oklahoma Panhandle State University at Farrington Field in Fort Worth, Texas.
